2001 jeep grand cherokee loud grinding noise and it resist's when i turn in 4 wheel drive part time?

i dont drive on the dry road with it in part time i only drive it in part time when the roads are snowy or icey. the transfer case it full but the fluid it black and runny like water.

p.s. which 4 wheel drive should i use when driving on the snowy icey roads?|||you definitely may want to crack open that transfer case and take a look and see. hmm, when was the last time you changed your transfer case fluid? could just need a changing maybe, mine was black when i bought it but then changed and a few months later still looks brand new.

you should use 4 part time/4lo when either towing or doing serious off roading since the part time locks the front and rear drive shafts. the 4 hi will be the best to use in icy/snow conditions since it will deliver torque to the wheels that lose traction in the snow instead of all the wheels locked and going the same speed no matter which loses traction and when going around any type of corners in snow that will prevent you from swerving off the road.|||sounds like the transfer case, 4wd hi only! dont want to blow a freeze plug
