Are there any pickup 4X4s that are really 4 wheel drive?

I am finally parting with my Jeep Wrangler that has true 4 wheel drive { meaning all 4 wheels engage when selected}. My past experiences with 4X4 pickups were knowing they were only two wheel drive -{ one power wheel in the front and one in the back}. I have been out of the market for a long time and can't find real reference to this subject. Do the Z71 or FX4 packages mean positraction front and back? Can anyone give me a tip on brands that may have this feature? I do not need passive 4X4 where I go. Thx|||Um, first off two-wheel-drive means only the rear wheels drive the truck. There's never been a system driven by one front and one rear wheel.

Second, if the truck says 4X4 then it's probably a true 4wd truck. Z71 started out as 4wd in the mid-'90s, but turned into more of an appearance/suspension package later on. Newer GM trucks will say both Z71 and 4X4 if they are 4wd. There's a quick and easy way to tell if a truck is 4wd. Look under the front end and see if there's an axle housing running between the front wheels. If there is then it is a 4wd vehicle. What you have to watch out for is some SUVs have all-wheel-drive systems. The Escalade is one SUV that has AWD, which can not be disengaged. It's all 4 all of the time.

As far as brands, GM, Ford and Dodge all offer trucks with 4wd. Some of them will have the "auto" option for passive 4wd, but that's something that has to be selected on the range selector switch. Most of them are also electronic, although a few trucks are available with manual selectors. Not sure which, but the dealership can give more detailed information.|||look into limited slip or locker rears front and back.
