Dakota 4 wheel not working?

I'm a single mom, HELP! 2002 Crew cab 5.9 Dakota switch goes back to 2x2 after blinking. I can't afford to bring it to the dealer to fix. All of the fuses are fine. What could it be and where is the part located to be replaced.|||its the front actuator that's causing that to happen its loosing vacuum ,its located on the right side of the front differential on that one and you can test it by using a vacuum pump on it,its best when they start to do that just to replace it, they cost about 60 bucks to replace, and that should restore it back to working good again, good luck.|||Sound to me like the switch could be bad.|||Either the switch or the actuator. The actuator is more common. These are most often electrically or vacuum operated and located on the top of the transfer case. If it is electric, a volt meter should help you decide wether you need a switch or actuator.

Take care.|||Will need to be hooked up to a scan tool to find codes in the transfer case control module. Most common part to fail is the control module itself but it is $400 for the part so it should be properly diagnosed first.|||FixItMom,

The response by Dodge Man is correct. I had the same thing happen on a different make. $50 (or pretty close to it) part, and a simple DIY replacement!
