What is the different between all wheel drive, 2 wheel drive, 4 wheel drive, 4X4, part time 4wd and such? Thx.

2 wheel drive: either the front or rear wheels provide power to propel the vehicle.

4 wheel drive, part-time: driver can select 4wd for better traction by pulling a lever of pressing a button.

4 wheel drive, full-time: the vehicle is always in 4 wheel drive.

4 wheel drive part-time, 4 wheel drive full-time and 4x4 all mean that the vehicle uses all four wheels to provide power. These systems are able to adjust the amount of power that is delivered to the front or rear wheels, based on the available traction.

AWD means that all four wheels have a pre-determined amount of power distribution to all four wheels. ex: Audi A4 Quattro = AWD, 60% power to the front wheels, 40% power to the rear wheels.
