I'm not sure how to use my 4 wheel drive. Do I have to be at a stop? Do I push on my brake when shifting? Also, what is the difference between the 4 wheel drive part time and full time.|||i have a jeep gc, but im assuming its simalair.
put it in to nuetral and step on the break.
there should be a bar (handle, mines an l shape) kindof by the center console, by the gas peddle. pull it to full time or part time 4 wheel.
full time if for rain snow ect when u need it constently. in the woods or ice too.
part time is for after the storm when the roads are bad but not currently snowing or raining.|||There are many different systems involved so the only way to know is to check the owners manual
Initially i would suggest stopping and engaging the 4 wheel drive but once its engaged as you drive down the road you can switch it in and out at will
Part time usually means you can choose whether its engaged or not full time means it is engaged all the time|||The above answer is wrong. Full time 4 wheel drive can be used whenever you want, the transfer case has a viscous coupling allowing the car to be driven in 4 wheel drive even on dry pavement( like a subaru). Part time 4 wheel drive would be used during 4 wheeling or in snowy conditions. In this setting the front and rear axles are locked together without the viscous coupling, in this mode driving on anything but very slippery surfaces would destroy the transfer case. 4 wheel low is used when a lower gear ratio is needed(climbing steep grades off road ect) it should never be used for street driving. You can shift from 2wd to 4wd part or full time and back again with out stopping at any speed under 50mph. Hope this helps|||Perhaps another read of your owners manual is in order?
