Is there a certain speed that your suppose to go while your in 4 wheel drive?
I drive a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee and was driving home in a bit of a snow storm yesterday, I don't believe I went over 45 or 50 mph while in 4 Wheel Drive (Full time) on the Highway...I figured since that part of the highway wasn't plowed very well the 4 wheel drive would give me better traction through the snow and slush...I was in 4 Wheel drive (Full time) for about 15, 20 mins, then went down to 4 wheel drive (part time) for about 10 mins because the roads were getting better and better as I drove, then obviously after that I put it back to its regular setting 2 wheel drive the rest of the way home....Someone told me that your not suppose to go over a certain speed in 4 wheel drive..I have never heard this before and now I'm afraid that I may have messed up my Truck?!?! ......Can anyone help?! :(|||you can drive any speed in full time on any roads snowy wet or dry.part time is for snow or dirt and should never be used on dry or just wet roads.as for speed as long as you watch you RPMs and dont over rev you motor thare is not limit.this only applys to your jeep some older trucks with 4 wheel drive did say in the manuel not to drive over a set speed in 4 wheel drive|||No, there is NOT different speed limits for 2-wheel OR 4-wheel drive vehicles.
It doesn't matter if the vehicle is 2-wheel OR 4-wheel drive, you will be driving the SAME speed in either drive.
4-wheel drive is NOT for highway driving at higher speeds.
If you can drive at 45 MPH, there is no need to be in 4WD.
HOWEVER doing it for a few minutes isn't going to hurt it.|||i own a 94 grand cherokee limited V-8 and it is all wheel drive . you need to check your owners manual or check with your local jeep dealer. they will be able to answer that one . i did own a 90 cherokee with the part time case and did not hurt it even when i went from ice to wet and ran freeway speeds for about 1 hour. no problems occurred. on my grand cherokee limited i can run all day at above 80 but with the V-8 it get a measly 13 mpg ! with i had a part time case i might get better economy but then we didn't buy our jeep for fuel economy.the freeway speeds i refer to are in the 65 to 75 mph range.
