Installing 4 wheel drive on a 2 wheel drive pickup?

i have a 2000 ford ranger with a 4.0L v6 with 134,000 miles. its a regular cab and its only 2 wheel drive. i live in North Dakota so i would like 4 wheel drive for the winter but im wondering where i can get it done and an estimate on how much it will cost me. it has a big enough engine for it and its an automatic transmission. and would it also be cheaper to order all the parts myself and then bring them to mechanic to install it?|||It will be far cheaper (and better) to sell your truck and buy one with 4WD.|||It will cost more to install it, than to buy another one with it already in it.

Parts and labor $7000|||It would be cheaper to sell the truck and buy another one with 4 wheel drive.|||The best bet is to sell it and buy a 4x4. you would basically need a complete 4x4 to rob all the parts off anyway. labor cost would be outta site|||Unless you simply can't stand to be parted from this truck or can do the work yourself, I would suggest you trade it in for a 4X4.

In 1979 I bought a new Datsun pickup that the dealer had sent out to be converted. The conversion added $2500 to the price.
