i just need to know what the cone part is called that goes on the back of a two wheel drive transmission i want to do away with the four wheel drive on my truck|||Why would you want to NOT have 4 wheel drive on your car or truck? Not having 4 wheel drive isn't going to help you get any more power or get any better gas mileage. You can't just remove the transfer case and turn it into a 2 wheel drive because if you do remove it you won't be able to get the drive shaft to the transmission. The 4 wheel drive transmission is missing the housing to hold the drive shaft and is made to slip into a transfer case. It just won't work.
To get this housing on to the transmission you have to do a complete tear down of the transmission to put one on it and you'd be better off just getting a 2 wheel drive transmission. If you just don't want to have 4 wheel drive you'd be better off disconnecting the front drive shaft.|||it's the tail stock. you remove the transfer case and replace it with a tail stock. And you're not going to get better gas mileage by converting it if that is the intention. You'll still have a 4x4 front axle and a more beefy frame and suspension to tote around. The only thing you'll reduce is the trucks resale value. Best bet is to sell it and buy a 2wd.|||The part you are asking about is the transmission tail stock.|||Transfer case.
good luck.....
