I have issues driving in the snow. My first car was totaled by a parked car -- yes a parked car -- it slid out of its driveway onto the road while i was driving past. So... i get pretty worked up when I drive in the snow now.
I recently got a new suv with 4 wd... i just have no idea when or what gear i should be using...
what is the difference between 4 part time, 4 full time and 4 lo??
hellllp|||2hi is what it should be in when in normal conditions. part time 4wd is when it senses that it is already slipping. i don't like this and always just go to 4hi which is what you have written as 4 full time. in the snow and mud etc i just go to 4hi. 4low is geared lower for power in slick conditions used in situations where you need to pull a stump out of the ground and other stuff. you should not use 4lo driving on paved roads. also only use 4wd when it is necessary or you will wear down your tires fast and other stuff.|||Normal driving you use part-time. This is just normal 2 wheel driving. Full-time is when you might need all 4 wheels to have traction like in snow, dirt, mud and sand. 4 low is a lower gear range if you are going real slow or over stuff where you need slower control (speed) or more pulling power to get up a hill or such in the dirt. Chances are you will never need the 4 low range. Does not sound like you have a transfer case lock position so should be able to use any on the road. If there is a 4 wheel lock postion use it off road or on real slick road like in the ice. Do not use a lock postion if there is one on the road. But with traction control systems most cars do not and use the brakes automaticly to do the same thing.
